Today, in the first issue of Captain America: Steve Rogers, they’ve introduced a storyline that Steve has been a member of Hydra since before he was given the serum.
Captain America..who was created by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon, both of Jewish descent, as a symbol of hope against fascism- a Nazi.
Steve Rogers…not a perfect soldier but a good man- completely okay with the knowledge of relentless torturing of his best friend Bucky at their hands.
It cheapens everything that Steve has ever symbolized, and it’s so morally reprehensible. And for what? Shock value? What Marvel has let Nick Spencer do is beyond appalling. It’s not edgy in the slightest- it’s deeply offensive and terrible writing.
And to add to this, from the lovely @agendernatasha: They made him an active member of a white supremacist organization.
Steve Rogers…friend and mentor of Sam Wilson, a white supremacist. In the very same issue, they showed a black man being beaten to death simply because of the color of his skin, and we’re supposed to believe that Sam is okay with that?
That’s why I’m angry at Marvel.
